Welcome! I would like to tell you a little bit about myself: I was born on a farm on Feb. 23, 1947 in Brewer community, Arkansas. My grandfather was a farmer...my dad was a farmer, and...guess what...I also became a farmer. Life was not so easy, but it was busy -- with the animals to care for and the fields to plow and plant, there was always something to do. My mother always took my brother, sister and I to the little country church that struggled to stay open. Needless to say, with only poor farmers to support it, the future did not look bright. But it was in that little run-down church that I felt the stirring of God in my soul as a young boy. The teen years, filled with activities and a life-shattering experience, left me a bitter and angry young man. I attended college in Monticello, Arkansas, majoring in business administration. As I had become prone to do, I fell in with the less studious crowd and college became just another failed experience, leaving me further disillusioned and disappointed with my life. A job and a wife soon followed. But how do you provide emotional support for another when you can't see beyond your own selfish desires? Needless to say, our marriage was troubled and on the verge of collapse when something wonderful and life-changing happened. A preacher showed up on our doorstep with an invitation to a revival service to be held in that same little church that I had attended as a child. The church was being opened just for this week of meetings and then it would be closed again. There came a stirring in my soul, just maybe God is the answer to my life. I determined to give God a chance. That was the greatest decision of my life. My wife, Patricia, and I received a life-transforming experience the first night of that meeting. The world seemed so different, the anger melted away, my new life had begun! My wife and I became active members at First Assembly of God in Stuttgart, Arkansas. I taught Sunday School for five years, served as a deacon for several years -- life was good -- but God had something more for my family.
At 28 years of age, I gave up the farm life and took up the high calling of God. I enrolled in Berean Bible College and, by correspondence, finished the three-year course graduating with a diploma in Pastoral Ministry. Some Post Graduate work was done by correspondence with the International Bible Institute and Seminary in Orlando, Florida. God has been good to my family and I, and after many wonderful years in pastoral ministry, I still thank God often for loving a young man who was, by most accounts, unlovable. It is amazing what the love of God can do! |
